The Lantern of the Word

This painting depicts a Manchu princess holding a traditional chicken-wire and paper lantern. Lanterns are plentiful in Chinese culture and have many meanings, most often as celebratory images. This more crudely made lantern would be an "everyday" lantern used to light dark places. This is a fitting kind of lantern to represent how faith provides a light to Christians who walk through the dark places of the world.
